Cash Prizes
CineSpace is a collaboration between NASA and the Houston Cinema Arts Society (HCAS), providing filmmakers worldwide with the opportunity to create short films inspired by NASA imagery. This competition encourages creativity and innovative storytelling while promoting the use of authentic NASA content.
Eligibility
To participate in the CineSpace competition, your project must meet the following criteria. Filmmakers from around the globe are encouraged to apply, provided they adhere to the outlined requirements.
Who Can Apply
- The competition is open to natural persons aged 18 or older at the time of entry. Parents or guardians may submit on behalf of filmmakers under 18.
- Filmmakers from any country can participate, as long as they can access NASA imagery.
Ineligible Participants
- Employees of NASA, Houston Cinema Arts Society (HCAS), and their board members.
- Employees of vendors contracted with NASA or HCAS.
- Members of the Selection Committee and Competition judges, as well as their households.
Project Requirements
- Original Work: Submissions must be original works created by the applicant, using NASA imagery.
- Creation Date: Works must be created after January 1, 2020.
- Language: Submissions must be in English or contain English subtitles.
- Length: Films must be no longer than 10 minutes, including credits.
- Nasa Imagery: At least 10% of the total runtime must consist of NASA video imagery.
Prize Money
CineSpace offers various prizes to encourage filmmakers, including cash awards and festival exposure.
- Finalist Prizes: All finalists gain recognition and their works will be screened at the Houston Cinema Arts Festival.
- Winner Prizes: Winners typically receive cash awards and further opportunities for screenings and visibility.
